Fake Call History Apps Stole Payments From Users After 7.3 Million Google Play Downloads

Cybersecurity researchers discovered 28 Android apps on Google Play that falsely claimed to provide call, SMS, and WhatsApp call histories for any phone number. The apps persuaded users to purchase subscriptions but returned only randomly generated or source-code-embedded fabricated data. Together, the apps received more than 7.3 million downloads before being removed from Google Play.
