What Is the Crash Override Malware Targeting Power Grids, and How Dangerous Is It?

In December 2016, malware hit Ukraine’s power grid and caused parts of Kyiv to lose power for up to about an hour. Dragos named the malware Crash Override; it is also known as Industroyer. It was designed to disrupt electrical-grid operations and could cause outages lasting hours at targeted locations, potentially extending to a few days if multiple sites were targeted.
