WIRED describes the Carbanak cybercrime group, which was suspected of stealing approximately €1 billion from financial organisations since 2013. The group compromised banks’ internal systems, remotely controlled ATMs and transferred funds between accounts. In 2018, Spanish authorities arrested Denis K., described as the alleged leader; the allegations against him were still subject to proof at the time of publication.
