Ransomware associated with the SamSam group caused major disruption to systems in the City of Atlanta, the Colorado Department of Transportation, and an Indiana hospital. The ransomware was inserted into Atlanta’s systems after the attackers manually gained access to the network, and they demanded $50,000 in bitcoin to restore the systems.
