Data stolen from Berlin’s state network leads to an extortion attempt
Berlin’s state government confirmed that it is facing an extortion attempt after the city’s state administrative network was compromised in August, and said it will not pay. Forensic work identified additional data outflows from the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and Environment between August 7 and August 12, 2026. The scope and content remain under examination, and personal or other non-public data cannot be excluded. Separately, Manchester Airports Group said an unauthorized third party obtained customer data related to its three UK airports.
