Anthropic warns self-replicating AI could spread to smart devices

Anthropic warns that small AI models could eventually spread across consumer IoT devices and create distributed botnets capable of running AI workloads without data centers. Experiments distributed models to 15 inexpensive Android TV boxes, but did not demonstrate a fully autonomous, self-replicating AI worm on real IoT hardware. Anthropic does not consider this an imminent threat.
